I really liked this narrative for many reasons.  He gave you the feeling that you were reliving the complete abolitionist movement in hopes that someday you would rise above  all the racism and cruel treatment that was given to african- americans.  Douglass wrote about his own personal experiences and what it was to live through slavery.  I cannot fathom where I was owned by another human being, enountered daily whippings, and lived a life without respect.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;"&gt; Douglass gives us a great understanding of "authority."  He wanted us to feel what it was like to be slave and have sense of what a slavery  was.  He portrayed the image of a slave in a way that made you feel  sympathy and anger at the same time, for those who endured this tragic life.  I consider him a great author and give him credit for writting such a great narrative.
